Picture the water early, before the wind has found it. Flat, pale, almost still. You are lying on a board, a small controller in one hand, and with the lightest squeeze the board begins to move — quietly, steadily, carrying you forward on its own power. A few minutes later you are on your knees. Not long after that, if the moment feels right, you stand.

That first ride is what AWAKE Sessions is built around.

Sessions is a coached electric jetboard experience for Australia and New Zealand, beginning on the Gold Coast. It is designed for people who have wondered what riding an electric surfboard actually feels like, and would rather find out with an experienced coach alongside them than on their own.

A board that makes its own wave

An Awake electric jetboard carries a quiet jet drive within its hull, powered by a removable battery and governed by a wireless hand controller. There is no paddling out and nothing to wait for. Momentum arrives when you ask for it and softens when you ease off, which means calm, sheltered water — the kind that would bore a surfer — becomes the ideal place to ride.

The board stays on the surface, too. Where an eFoil rises above the water on a hydrofoil, a jetboard keeps you close to it, and the feeling sits somewhere between surfing and wakeboarding. For most people meeting electric board riding for the first time, that familiarity matters. The progression from lying to kneeling to standing comes naturally, and the water never feels far away. Our guide to jetboards and eFoils explores the two in more depth.

Coached from the first moment

The difference a coach makes is hard to overstate. A first ride on your own tends to be a little tense: too much throttle, weight in the wrong place, a fall that comes before you have understood why. A good coach removes that guesswork. You learn how gently the controller wants to be handled, where to set your feet, how to read the board as it responds beneath you. The pace is yours, and nobody is hurried towards standing before they are ready.

It is also why Sessions suits first-timers so well. You do not need to surf, wakeboard or have spent years on the water. Surfers and paddlers will find their instincts transfer quickly; complete beginners will find the board more forgiving than they expected. Friends, couples and families will find it an unusually good thing to share — the kind of morning people tend to talk about on the drive home.

Sessions are also distinct from simply hiring a board. Every ride is coached, and the point is the experience itself rather than time on borrowed equipment.

Why the RÄVIK Explore

For the launch, our intended board is the Awake RÄVIK Explore, the most approachable model in the RÄVIK range. It favours stability and composure over outright performance, with generous volume and width that make the first moments of standing up feel calmer, and a soft protective bumper around its edge. If we were choosing one board to place beneath a first-time rider, this would be it. Those curious about the board itself can read who the RÄVIK Explore is for.

Starting on the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is a natural first home: warm water, long seasons and a lifestyle already lived outdoors. Sessions will begin there, with details shared first with those on the Gold Coast waitlist. If you would rather ride somewhere else in Australia or New Zealand, you can say so on the Sessions page — interest from each region shapes where we go next.

Sessions sit alongside our demos rather than replacing them. If you are already considering owning a board and would like to ride specific models with our team, a private demo is the better path.

Do I need any experience? None at all. Coaching starts from the very beginning.

Is joining the waitlist a booking? No. It simply means you will hear first when Sessions open in your chosen location.

Can I ride an eFoil in a Session? Sessions begin with the electric jetboard, which we believe is the more natural introduction to electric board riding.

If that early, glassy water and a first quiet glide across it sounds like your kind of morning, join the Sessions waitlist. We would love to see you on the water.
