Watch someone ride an electric jetboard across a quiet bay and you can almost see the question form on the faces of people watching from the shore. It does not usually begin with price, or range, or which model. It begins with something simpler and more human: I wonder what that feels like.
Curiosity is where nearly every relationship with an electric surfboard starts. The trouble is that, for most people, the answer has only ever been available after the decision to buy.
Desire, and the distance from it
An electric surfboard is a considered purchase, and a slightly unusual one. Most of the things we spend real money on for leisure — a car, a boat, a set of golf clubs — we have at least sat in, stood on or swung before we commit. Here, many people are asked to imagine instead.
And imagination raises its own doubts. Would I actually be able to ride it, or is this a sport for people who grew up on boards? Would the family use it, or would it become a beautiful object in the garage? Is a jetboard what I want, or an eFoil, and what is the difference when you are actually standing on one? Which board suits someone like me?
These are sensible questions. They are also almost impossible to answer from a screen. An hour of reading tends to produce more questions; a short time on the water tends to settle them.
What the body learns quickly
Riding is a physical kind of knowledge. You discover how softly the hand controller wants to be squeezed, how the board steadies as it gathers a little speed, how a small shift of weight changes everything. None of that translates well into specifications, and all of it arrives remarkably quickly with an experienced coach alongside.
That is the quiet value of a coached first ride. It takes away the pressure of a decision and replaces it with the experience itself. For some, it will simply be a memorable morning on the water. For others, it becomes the beginning of something much larger — and when that conversation does turn to ownership, it begins from understanding rather than guesswork.
The kind of board matters, too. A jetboard rides on the surface of the water, close to the feeling of surfing or wakeboarding, and most people find the move from lying to kneeling to standing comes naturally. An eFoil lifts above the water on a hydrofoil, which is thrilling in its own right but asks more of a beginner. Our guides to jetboards and eFoils and how to ride a jetboard explore both in more detail.
Where Sessions fits
This thinking sits behind AWAKE Sessions, our coached electric jetboard experience for Australia and New Zealand, which begins on the Gold Coast. You can read more in Introducing AWAKE Sessions.
The intended launch board is the Awake RÄVIK Explore, the most approachable model in the RÄVIK range and the one we would choose for a first ride. A Session is a coached experience in its own right, separate from equipment hire and separate from a sales conversation. For those already weighing up ownership, a private demo with our team remains the right step.
Letting interest lead
The Sessions waitlist is, in a sense, a way of listening. It lets riders hear first when Sessions open, and it shows us where curiosity runs strongest — on the Gold Coast, or in a city or stretch of coastline we have not yet considered. You can register for the Gold Coast or suggest somewhere else in Australia or New Zealand, and each expression of interest helps shape where Sessions go next. Registering is not a booking and carries no obligation.
There is something fitting in that. A sport this new is best introduced the way people naturally want to meet it: on the water, with a little guidance, and without anything to decide beforehand.
If you have found yourself wondering what it feels like, join the Sessions waitlist.
